Blogging Birthday Bash – “White Ladies”, “Rice Paper Rolls”, “Keralan Fish Curry with Lemon Rice” and “White Chocolate and Passionfruit Mousse” from “Forever Summer”

Anna: I’m getting quite good at these birthday feasts given it’s the month of August. Because you are my co-conspirator and blogging partner-in-crime, this is a particularly special one.   Thankfully Zoe was able to run to Marks’ in her 3 inch peeptoe heels, on an emergency lemon mission, so now we are able to drink White Ladies all night!

Zoe: I only got one blister!  (Cackle)

Kirstin: I’m going to miss the cocktails.  I think we should do them anyway after this month.

Anna: Shall I email Bill and ask him to write a cocktail book?

Zoe: Wasn’t the idea to drink less if we had cocktails? But instead we downed the first one.

Anna: White Ladies were chosen in honour of us and our purity.  Eh Zoe?

Kirstin: Allora.  Qui siamo in Italia.  Enough Italian, how about gimlet? It sounds very Arthurian, doesn’t it? Like the Green Knight. What is a gimlet?

Simon: I have a gimlet. You use it to make holes before you put screws in. You are gimlet-eyed if you have a narrow-eyed look.

Kirstin: Like the death stare? Like this?

Simon: Er… yes.

Tom: It was essentially a mojito, but with vodka instead of rum. What did you all think?

Simon: It was very limey.

Cristiana (while taking a picture of the peach recipe): Lovely! I’ve had mojitos in my youth. I can’t remember the last one I had. Maybe it was eight years ago. But I can’t really tell you the difference.

Kirstin: I thought it was nicer and cleaner than a mojito. I’ll definitely be making that one again. It felt easier than a mojito. But I don’t normally make them. You make them for me, Tom!

Tom: This was easy to make because there was a wonderful machine that juiced all the limes.

Jenny: It was sharp and decisive! Like a gimlet!

Gianni: Era buonissimo! Davvero.

Simon: Of course, a screwdriver is another cocktail.

Tom: Are there other tools that are also cocktails? Continue reading ““Fresh Green Gimlet” and “Mint Julep Peaches” from “Forever Summer”. With pici made by Cristiana”

A fishy French feast from “Forever Summer”

Anna: Bonjour tout le monde!

Kirstin: Bonsoir! We are in the south of France this week, en vacances, in Uzès. So we’re starting with “Gina”, a cocktail — we’ve had a long day today. We fitted in le marché…

Anna: Twice! Ce matin, le premier fois, there was this grande poisson stall. Stall de poisson!

Kirstin: A fish stall. Our eyes were bigger than the eyes of an octopus. I talked to the women behind me in the queue about mermaids. In French.
