“Tomato Soup, Chunky Croutons, Crunchy Veg & Guacamole, Sticky Prune Sponge Puddings” from “Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals”

Time Taken: 40′ 11″

If you’d like to see if you can beat my time, a copy of the recipe is on the Daily Mail site. Click here.

Maureen: Tonight’s menu is chosen by Andrew! What do you think?

Andrew: It’s good.

Maureen: What do you like about it?

Andrew: The fact that it’s basic.

Maureen: It’s not that basic. It took 40 minutes.

Tim: Look at that. The cucumbers, which required no cooking at all, were the first to go.

Maureen: What do you think, Nicholas?

Nicholas: It’s alright.

Maureen: Is that better or worse than in the middle?

Nicholas: Better!

Tim: Was there supposed to be chilli in this?

Maureen: Of course there was. There’s supposed to be chilli in everything in this cookbook. But I didn’t include it. Both for my sake, and for Nicholas’s. Would you want me to make it again?

Andrew: Yes.

Nicholas: I don’t know.

Tim: I think there’s nothing special about it. It was adequate. It fed me. But I didn’t love it.

Maureen: Now on to the dessert.

Maureen: This goes against everything I believe in as both a cook and a baker. Baking a cake in a microwave? Are you kidding me??

Tim: It’s not baking. It’s using a microwave to make a cake-like substance.

Nicholas: I’m going to pass on this. When I started to dig into it, it started to turn all wrong.

Maureen: It looks as though no one likes it. We all took one bite and stopped eating.

Tim: It’s gross.

Nicholas: From now on, I’m always going to judge a book by its cover. I mean, a food by its looks.

Andrew: It had literally no flavour at all.

Tim: He’s right, actually. There’s no flavour. It’s gross, and there’s nothing pretty about it. I can’t believe you actually made a prune dessert. You should know better.

Maureen: I thought we’re always telling the children that they should try everything, and I thought the rule should apply to us, too.

Tim: So have you eaten any of the prunes yet?

Maureen: No. I can’t bring myself to, sorry.

Tim: You should try it!

Maureen: No. I’m not going to do it. One of the perks of being an adult is you don’t have to eat foods you don’t like. This dessert is a prime example of that.

Tim: I’m so disappointed.

Editor’s Note: Luckily, the children had left the room after their last comments were recorded above, so they don’t know the secret of being an adult, that you don’t have to try it. But kids, if you are reading this, You should always try it! Honest!!
